Optimizing auditory input for foreign language learners through a verbotonal-based dichotic listening approach

چکیده

Abstract The quality of the physical language signals to which learners are exposed and result in neurobiological activity leading perception constitutes a variable that is rarely, if ever, considered context learning. It deserves some attention. current study identifies an optimal audio input signal for Chinese EFL/ESL generated by modifying features language-bearing signals. This achieved applying principles verbotonalism dichotic listening context. Low-pass filtered (320 Hz cut-off) unfiltered speech were dichotically diotically directed each hemisphere brain through contralateral ear. Temporal spatial neural signatures processing detected combined event-related potential (ERP) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) experiment. Results showed stimuli left ear right (FL-R) configuration provided auditory actively exploiting left-hemispheric dominance right-hemispheric melodic processing, i.e., was fed it should be best equipped process—and actually did so effectively. In addition, (L-FR) identified as entirely non-optimal learners. Other outcomes included significant load reduction exposure both-ear-filtered FL-FR well confirmation non-language recognized irrelevant not trigger any processing. These various will necessarily entail further research.

Integrative Systemic Therapy in Foreign Language Learning: A Practical Framework for Managing Foreign Language Listening Anxiety among Iranian EFL Learners

This study aimed at proposing a framework based on Integrative Systemic Therapy (IST) for addressing foreign language listening anxiety (FLLA) among Iranian learners of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The effectiveness of the framework in reducing the levels of FLLA among language learners was investigated when implemented by a therapist as well as by learners independently. To this end, 3...

Auditory Laterality : Dichotic Listening and fMRI Studies

Auditory laterality and hemispheric asymmetry The differing perceptual and cognitive functions of the two cerebral hemispheres is one of the great discoveries and mysteries of the human brain (see Hugdahl & Westerhausen, 2009 for a recent review of the field). Ever since the groundbreaking work by the Nobel Laureate Roger Sperry (see Sperry 1974), mapping the different functions of the cerebral...

Functional differentiation in the human auditory and language areas revealed by a dichotic listening task.

The human auditory cortex plays a special role in speech recognition. It is therefore necessary to clarify the functional roles of individual auditory areas. We applied functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to examine cortical responses to speech sounds, which were presented under the dichotic and diotic (binaural) listening conditions. We found two different response patterns in multipl...

Towards a Corpus-based Approach to Modelling Language Production of Foreign Language Learners in Communicative Contexts

This paper discusses linguistic annotation issues, essential to a corpus-based approach to modelling the language use of foreign language learners in various contexts. We focus on learners of English and describe the corpora we use as well as the linguistic approach underlying their development. We present a scheme for describing grammatical choices and meaning components expressed in texts pro...

Relationship Between Foreign Language Listening Anxiety and Listening Comprehension

This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between foreign language listening anxiety and listening comprehension. The study employed correlational study design. Participants of the study were 40 grade 11 students who attended the listening class in 2015/2016. Foreign language listening anxiety questionnaire and listening comprehension tests were used as data gathering instrumen...
